Illustration is a special kind of Art for Carol Ann Johnson.
It is a beautiful blend of Fine Art and Commercial Art.
The richly colored, beautifully drawn, illustrations of Arthur Syzk in his 'Andersen's Fairy Tales' inspired Johnson before she could even read the stories. Also, at an early age, she was mesmerized by the illustrations and animations produced by the Disney Studios it seemed inevitable that the Artist would not only pursue a career in Art, but would also explore illustration.
Graduating from Syracuse University with a minor in English and a BFA in printmaking, which included training in painting, drawing, design, and more, the Artist was well prepared when approached to illustrate a series of books by the author Donivee Laird in Hawaii. This series of popular fairy tales, adapted to a setting in Hawaii and incorporating many Hawaiian words was a delightful and wildly successful beginning of the Artist's illustration art. Several of the titles are available on www.amazon.com and on the Bess Press site.
Upon moving to the Mainland in '96, Johnson has also illustrated books for many authors in the Northwest. She also wrote, illustrated, and published her own children's book 'Holiday Magic' in June of 2015 which is available at www.thebookpatch.com in their online bookstore.
For this Artist it is an exhilarating experience to work in harmony with authors transforming their story into artwork visualizing the author's characters & settings with authentic detail. Be it pen & ink, watercolor, or colored pencil, this illustrator, with a deep and personal understanding of publishing needs, creates memorable Illustrated books to delight readers of all ages.
